Kitchen Remodeling
Finally!!! We finally remodeled our kitchen in early February, ripping out the old cabinets that were (literally) falling apart and putting in some nice, new ones, plus a nice new dishwasher (that actually washes the dishes).
Before:
Matt had a lot of fun ripping stuff out.
The kids had a lot of fun watching Matt rip stuff out.
Almost there:
Matt did the best he could working on this after work and on weekends, but it did seem to take forever to get everything in place. It was interesting trying to feed our large family with nothing but an instant pot and a microwave for a nearly a month. We got by, but I don't want to try that again for a long time.
The Big Freeze
The worst part of our remodeling project was right in the middle of us ripping out our kitchen and having large holes in the wall, Houston was hit by a record breaking cold spell. We were really blessed to not loose electricity the whole time. So many other people had to live in their freezing cold houses with no heating for several days. Our downstairs was pretty chilly, but at least we could resort to the upstairs that stayed decently warm.
The kids, as you can see, had a blast!
Michael's Birthday
With the kitchen messed up, we resorted to having Michael's 13th Birthday party at Nana's house...
with a store-bought cake.
Anniversary Trip
In March, Matt and I took a little trip up to the Lake Conroe area for our 14th anniversary. We stayed in a "tiny home" on a little pond out in the country and had a fun, relaxing time hiking, fishing, and antiquing.
Missouri Trip
For Spring Break, we headed up to Missouri with my folks. We had fun touring BassPro Shops,
checking on the cows,
and just playing around.
Easter came next, with lots of candy and eggs. Matt and Michael are noticable missing from these pictures because they were off on a ski trip in Utah and getting miserably sunburned! They had a blast on the slopes, but came home so raw, red, and blistered. :(
Annie's Birthday
We celebrated Annie's 5th birthday with style.
Her favorite gift was a pair of roller skates from Grandma.
Homeschool Excursions
In January, I signed up Sadie, Ada,and Joseph for a evening program on owls at a local park. It was fabulous! We got to see some owl friends up close, then went on a owl hunt on the trails using a recording of an owl to attract one right to us. He kept following us for the whole trek.
We continued doing co-op at Burrough's park. I taught outdoor preK the whole school year with 15+ little kids running around, no walls to keep them contained, and a lake with alligators 20 yards away. Yikes! It was an experience. Fun, but not something I want to do again soon.
In May, we headed back to Crocodile Encounters. So fun to feed the tortoises and amazing to see the big guys up close.
Sadie was part of a little production of Much Ado About Nothing.
I took Sadie with me to the Homeschool Conference here in the Woodlands. We had a great time and she enjoyed listening to all the talks more than I thought she would. We came home with lots of great ideas for the new school year.
Fun Stuff
Ada has been helping a lot with his yard work, including making these beautiful "stone" pathways.
Dino-bronco at the park
A beautiful sunset at one of Joseph's soccer practice.
Peter made the switch to a "big boy bed" this spring. After 6 kids and 13 years, we finally said goodbye to having a crib in the house. It was bittersweet for me, but mostly happy to be moving on. Now we're looking forward to potty training!
Reading with my kids is still my favorite thing to do.
