COVID QUARANTINE

Right after we got back from our Spring Break trip, COVID Quarantine restrictions set in full force. We've been sticking pretty close to home ever since, but still managing to have fun.

Part of the fun has been more Art and Crafts

Here is Annie sporting a scotch tape mustache a la Sarah.

Peter made a cup tower all by himself.

Both Annie and Peter have discovered the fun of PAINT!

Easter bunny projects

Ada broke out her loom again.

Sarah has gone crazy with paper crafts, especially making these cute journals.

When boredom sets in, strange things start to happen....

Our neighborhood organized a stuffed animal hunt. All the families were supposed to put their stuffed friends out so everyone could walk or drive around for an animal hunt. I think our family may have won the award for the most stuffed animals.

Peter has learned to love dancing, so impromptu dance parties pop-up frequently in our home.

Jojo spent a lot of time at the beginning of quarantine learning to ride his bike. After a few shaky days, he was off and is loving his new-found freedom.

We've also been spending lots of time outside swinging

and gardening. (I am determined to have a successful garden this year!)

Easter was kind of a tipping point for our family. Up til then, we really weren't seeing much of Nana and Popie, trying to avoid any potential virus transmission. But Nana just HAD to see her grandkids for Easter, so we gave in and had an Easter egg hunt in their backyard.

Since then, we've loosened up a bit, but are still trying to be careful. We've gone on quite a few outings together, most at nearby parks.
 A walk through Mercer Arboretum

Picnics

The Hundred Acre Woods

 Dew berry picking

For one week, we were the proud owners of this beautiful box turtle that the kids found at our neighborhood park. We initially thought he was an escapee from one of the neighbors, but it turns out, he's native. Freddy eventually made his escape, and we hope he will pop up in our back yard again some time.

Joseph lost his two front teeth about a week apart. He was so proud!

Cake Day! Cake Day! The best day of the year!  CAKE (Celebrate the Acquisition of Knowledge Exhibition) day is quickly becoming a favorite tradition in our family. The kids have time to show off the things they have been doing during the school year, then we eat cake.

A few days later we got more cake as we celebrated AnneMarie's fourth birthday with a special Mermaid Fairy Princess party.

And a week later, we celebrated Nana's birthday too.

And Mom has been going crazy with lots of home improvement projects. Actually, I haven't gone crazy.  We just finally have time to do some things that I've been wanting to do for years.

First, we painted the ugly brown wood paneling in the living room. It looks so much brighter and happier. We all love the change.

We are currently in the middle of dividing our playroom into a bedroom for Sarah (for which she has been begging for a long time), plus a walk-in pantry for me. We are also extending the closet under the stairs to turn it into a little play area. Just this week we tore up the carpet to discover what we have long suspected.... We have a huge crack in the foundation.

My dad is helping us even out the floor so we can move ahead with the project, but we will soon be fixing the foundation as well......And then we'll remodel the kitchen, and update the children's bathroom, and then add shelves to the laundry room and --  Well, the list could go on and on, but I really am so excited about finally fixing up our house the way I want it to be.

Houston in the Springtime

Spring 2020 came exceptionally early here in Houston, but it was lovely while it lasted. We took advantage of it by getting out of the house as much as possible.

Our first walk around the Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve.

Adelaide, in concert with her choir at the local homeschool convention.

We decided to take a real spring break this year, just before the covid-19 quarantine restrictions hit our state. I had been planning to go to Austin and revisit some of my old haunts and old friends for a while, and I'm so glad we did.

We had a picnic lunch with my old co-worker, Sally, and then visited the Georgetown Public Library where I worked.

They still have the best children's library I've ever seen, complete with the old Jeep.

I drove the kids to all the houses I lived in (or as close as we could get).

And we visited with Aunt Alison, including a hike up Mount Bonnell
 and the State Capital.

We also spent an afternoon at McKinney Falls State Park. It was lovely. I wonder why I had never been there before?

And of course, we had to take a picture in the bluebonnets!

After our Austin adventure, we headed down to San Antonio to visit Grandma and Grandpa.
This little guy loves to read!
Since we did a little unit on Texas History for school, we had to tour the Alamo.  Jojo was really excited to find Davy Crockett's name and figure on the memorial. (Yes, we watched the Disney movie about Davy Crockett beforehand.)

It was pretty busy, but I'm glad we went. It's just one of those placed you have to go see if you're a Texan.
